Bristol Meetups

Xamarin and React Native

Welcome all to the July's SWMobile Meetup which has a focus on Xamarin and React Native. We have three great talks lined up for you followed by a Q&A discussion about cross platform.

Talk 1: Xamarin Forms update – An overview of the latest Xamarin Forms including the future with Shell and Drawing
Bio: Ben Buttigieg, Senior Software Engineer on the Mobile Customer Advisory Team at Microsoft, previously at Xamarin and Nokia.

Talk 2: React Native: the state of the union - Recently, both Airbnb and Udacity have publicly expressed their intention to remove React Native from their mobile app codebases. Does this mean the beginning of the end for React Native? We’ll dissect the reasons why these companies are moving away from one of the most popular cross-platform frameworks, and discuss the impact this could have on React Native over the coming months.
Bio: Tom is a freelance web and mobile app developer with 12 years experience in the industry. He has built apps for a wide range of local agencies and startups and is currently enjoying working with React and React Native.

Talk 3: React Native isn’t just about the code - There has been much discussion recently about React Native from a development perspective, but I’d like to offer a different take. What are the pro’s and con’s from a managers perspective of React Native development? In this short talk I’ll talk about people, project and client management perspectives of a React native project.
Bio: Tom Melamed is the co-founder and Client Services Director of Calvium a thriving Mobile Development Agency. Throughout his career he’s spanned everything from app development to server architecture to sales and account management. He can often be found wearing a beard.
