Automating Toil by Lying to Your Boss’s Slack Bot

At Jetstack we practice asynchronous stand-ups, posting what we’re doing in a Slack channel every morning for a custom Slack bot to parse and report on. I was attending a conference for a week, so I knew what I’d be doing the whole week in advance. However, our slack bot doesn’t let you pre-post reports. So, in true over-engineering style, I built my own Slack bot to automate posting of my pre-written stand-ups every day. It runs entirely on Google Cloud, and costs pennies to run.
